Season of Hope Ornaments - Waldo Canyon Fire

For a $10 donation, you can order a "Season of Hope" ornament for your tree. 100% of the proceeds will go to the church's Waldo Canyon Fire Fund, which assists with fire/flood mitigation and rebuilding the neighborhood. When you scroll down to the second page it addresses Influenza Vaccination of Persons with a History of Egg Allergy. Also, below in this email is a chart to guide individuals with egg allergies (slight and severe) on getting the influenza vaccine FDA Approves Egg-Free Flu Vaccine for Adults The FDA has approved a new influenza vaccine (marketed as Flucelvax) for adults 18 and older. Flucelvax is the first in the U.S. to be produced using cultured mammalian cells instead of fertilized chicken eggs, and according to the manufacturer, can be made much more quickly than traditional influenza vaccines, which can take months. In a randomized study of adults aged 18 to 49, Flucelvax was 83.8% effective in preventing influenza compared with placebo. In adults 49 and older, Flucelvax was comparable to the egg-based vaccine Agriflu. Side effects were similar to those seen with other flu vaccines and included fatigue, headache, and pain at the injection site.

Flu Shot Clinic in Pueblo West

Posted: 12/12/2012 - There will be a flu shot clinic December 18th in Pueblo West. Parkview Medical Center is hosting the clinic. It will be at the Pueblo West ER on 899 E. Industrial Blvd. Vaccines will be available for for everyone 18 years or older between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. The cost is $20. For more information, call 584-7319.

Influenza Case In Pueblo County

Posted: 12/06/2012 - Public Health Officials in Pueblo announced the first hospitalized case of influenza in Pueblo County. The first hospitalized flu case is a middle-aged adult female.County Public Health recommends everyone over six months of age receive a flu shot, especially people who are at high risk of developing flu-related complications or live with or care for people at high risk. Vaccination against flu helps protect yourself and the most vulnerable people in the community (such as newborns, pregnant women, the elderly, and those going through chemotherapy). Some children younger than nine years of age will need two doses, check with your provider.

Colorado Safe Haven Law

Posted: 12/05/2012 - The Colorado Safe Haven Law allows a parent to hand over and infant, up to 72 hours old, to an employee at any Fire Station or Hospital, with absolutely NO QUESTIONS ASKED. So long as the baby is unharmed, the parent will not be prosecuted for abandonment. The law was passed in the year 2000. In Colorado, 35 babies have been safely relinquished since the inception of the law.
