Updated: 10/17/2012 - Seniors are still picking up the phone and fall victim to what’s called the “Grandparent Scam.” The caller convinces the older adult their grand kid is in trouble and asks them to wire emergency cash. Here are some ways to protect yourself: -Seniors should ignore the warning not to tell anyone and call and check on their grand kids anyway -Ask the called detailed questions that only family knows -Get the names and numbers of the people demanding money; if they refuse to give it to you, you know it’s a scam -Once you realized you’ve been scammed, contact the wire service immediately and ask them to sop payment on your check. The most helpful thing any of us can do is spread the word to our parents, neighbors, and friends. If you get a call like this, you are asked to report the scam to the Federal Trade Commission at 1-877-382-4357 or www.ftc.gov.

Please be assured that we have identified the source, taken steps to exterminate this area completely, and health inspectors will be sure the problem is cleared before we allow any access to this area. No students are allowed in this area, and limited staff is allowed access to this area so we do believe this is an isolated incident. Your student’s safety and well-being are of our utmost concern, and if you have any questions, please contact the school office at (719) 328-6600. Sincerely, Rusty Moomey, Principal
