Posted: 02/11/2016 - The IRS is warning taxpayers to file their returns as early as possible. Crooks are stealing people's information and filing fake tax returns in their name. If this happens to you, make sure to file a police report right away. You will also need to call the IRS. They have a special identity protection unit that can help, just call 800-908-4490. You also need to call one of the three major credit bureaus to have a fraud alert placed on your records. You can call Equifax at 800-525-6285, Experian at 888-397-3742, or TransUnion at 800-680-7289. You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at 877-438-4338.
