Posted: 08/16/2013 - The Home has provided a safe place for those in need for 100 years and has planned many events to celebrate. On Saturday, August 17th, we will host alumni picnic at the home to reunite and reminisce. The event will feature a lunch, tours of the grounds and a brief program. Other aspects of our yearlong celebration include a new downtown mural at Bijou and Cascade, museum exhibits at the Pioneers Museum and the Western Museum of Mining and Industry and a stakeholders luncheon planned for early November. Posted: 08/16/2013 - Thousands of veterans will be descending on Cripple Creek this weekend for the American Veterans Rally. There are a number of events open to the public that you can attend! The rally runs from Friday through Sunday, and will include a special POW-MIA Memorial Highway dedication at noon Saturday. Other events include: -the POW/MIA Remembrance Ceremony, which organizers call the "centerpiece of the event" and urge rally attendees not to miss. It will be held immediately after the highway dedication. -26th annual POW/MIA Recognition Ride Saturday morning, which will utilize the newly dedicated highway for the first time. -2013 Veterans Rally free concert series -Veterans Poker Run on Friday -Saturday Night Street Dance at intersection of 2nd Street and Bennett. Posted: 08/14/2013 - Police are looking for suspects in two attempted kidnappings in Southern Colorado. The first happened near Woodmen and Austin Bluffs in Colorado Springs. The suspect is a mixed-race man, 6 feet tall with short, dark brown hair. He was reportedly wearing a green t-shirt and blue or blue-gray knee-length shorts. One witness told officers the suspect may have had a tattoo on his right calf. The suspect was reportedly driving a white passenger van with tinted windows in the back. The other attempted kidnapping happened in Pueblo. One of the suspects in this case is a dark-skinned Hispanic man in his mid-30s. He has a bald head, a thin, dark mustache and was wearing a dark plaid shirt. The other suspect is a Hispanic man in his 20s. He has short hair and was wearing a white shirt with dark letters on the front. They are driving a white, older model truck. It is a 2-door extended cab. It has dark tinted windows and chrome bumpers, which sit low to the ground. If you see any of the suspects, or their vehicles, call police right away.

Certified child passenger safety technicians will be on hand at approximately 150 CPS inspection stations across the state to check car seats for proper installation. Posted: 08/01/2013 - Need to get rid of some old documents? KKTV and the Better Business Bureau are teaming up for the latest "Letter Rip!" All you need to do is pack your documents into boxes and head down to the Sky Sox stadium parking lot on 4385 Tutt Boulevard, where your documents will be shredded. The event is going on from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday Up to five boxes of documents will be accepted for free; you'll be charged $5 per box for any additional boxes. Plastics, cardboard, magazines, and files more than a half-inch thick cannot be accepted. E-waste and data destruction will also be available. Call Blue Star Recyclers for pricing.
