Windshield wiper blades that are not making full contact with the window, or that are cracked and dried out, should be replaced. Also, be sure to keep extra windshield washer fluid and an ice scraper in your car. Keep a cold weather safety kit in your car that includes gloves, boots, blankets, flares, water and a flashlight. Examine your tires for tread life and uneven wearing. Also, be sure tires are properly inflated. Tires lose a pound of pressure for every 10 degrees the temperature drops. Be sure the heater and defroster in your car are working properly to ensure passenger comfort and driver visibility. The cooling system should be flushed every two years with a 50-50 mixture of antifreeze and water. Have the level, condition and concentration of the antifreeze mixture checked periodically. Have your mechanic check your battery fluid levels, battery posts and cable connectors. Bad connections can keep your car from starting. Brakes should be checked as recommended, but if you are noticing pulsations, noises or longer stopping distances, get a mechanic to look at them right away. Make sure all lights and bulbs are in proper working order and replace any burned-out bulbs.

Posted: 8:05 AM With cases of the whooping cough on the rise in Colorado, local health leaders are urging people to get vaccinated. So far, 940 cases have been reported in Colorado this year. The Fire Department and health leaders are teaming up, holding clinics to get the vaccine out. The clinic will be at the Fire Department headquarters Saturday, running from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Flu shots will also be offered.

Posted: 1:24 AM Dale and Thomas Popcorn is voluntarily recalling bags of its flavored, ready-to-eat Indiana-brand products. The F-D-A says there is concern about a possible Listeria contamination. The recalled popcorn bags were distributed after August 8th and have "best by" dates of February 4, 2013 to March 12, 2013. Listeria is most dangerous to young children, the elderly, people with weakened immune systems and pregnant women. It can cause a high fever, severe headaches, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.

Posted: 5:19 AM Honda is recalling more than half a million of its popular Accord vehicles because of a potential fire risk. The recall involves the Accord V-6 from model years 2003-to-2007. Honda says the power steering hoses in these cars could leak and cause a fire in the engine. So far, no crashes or injuries have been reported. Honda dealers will fix the problem for free. But, replacement parts for the Accord won't be available until early next year.

Sunland Inc. has recalled multiple products after salmonella was linked to the Trader Joe's Creamy Salted Valencia Peanut Butter. According to the CDC, 30 illnesses in 19 states can be traced to the Trader Joe's product. Posted: 2:03 AM General Motors has issued a recall for 40-thousand cars and S-U-V's because of a faulty fuel pump. The recall affects these models: the 2007 through 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt; 2007 Chevrolet Equinox; 2007 through 2009 Pontiac G-5; 2007 Pontiac Torrent; And 2007 Saturn Ion. G-M says the fuel pumps in those vehicles could crack and cause a potentially dangerous fuel leak. The vehicles were sold or registered in Arkansas, Arizona, California, Florida, Nevada, Oklahoma and Texas. Owners can get a free replacement by contacting a G-M dealer.

The F-B-I is getting thousands of complaints about this worldwide… and issued this warning online: "The FBI will never insist that you need to pay a fine to the FBI to unlock it. That's not a law enforcement tactic." But the problem is your computer really is locked; even restarting won't get rid of the screen. This virus is called reveton (rev-it-on) ransomware. Ransomware because it requests money. Scammers use it in connection with other malware, so unlocking your computer doesn't mean you're done with this invasion. What makes this scam particularly frightening is that it's a drive-by virus... You can pick it up just by surfing the web and there's no way to know which sites are infected. The fire department and health leaders are teaming up holding free clinics to get the vaccine out. The targeted group is people who care for children. Officials hope to immunize 1000 people by the time they’re done in order to stop the fast spreading whooping cough here in El Paso County. The TDAP and Flu Immunization Clinics are being held specifically for licensed and home care child care workers. The three upcoming clinics will be held at the Colorado Springs Fire Department Headquarters at 375 Printers Parkway. They are from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on the following dates: October 6, November 10, and December 8.

This is a statewide event that will provide an opportunity for the public to surrender pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications to law enforcement for destruction. The event will operate from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) is responsible for securing the collected drugs until the DEA has recovered them. Tablets, capsules, and all other solid dosage units will be collected. Items which CANNOT be accepted are: Needles & Sharps, Mercury {thermometers}, Oxygen containers, Chemotherapy/Radioactive substances, Pressurized canisters or Illicit Drugs.
