Posted: 12/15/2014 - Black Forest Together has received a grant, from the Colorado Department of Natural Resources, to reduce the cost of neighborhood projects that remove green vegetation to improve survivable space around homes, and reduce the chance of another extreme wildfire. This grant will only support projects to cut green fuels, not remove burned vegetation (“black sticks”). Click the link for more information.

Alternative trails: the Columbine Trail, Silver Cascade Falls Trail at Helen Hunt Falls, the Chamberlain Trail, and Stratton Open Space. North Cheyenne Cañon Road in North Cheyenne Cañon Park Park users may encounter lane closures as contractors repair various sections of the flood-damaged roadway. Bear Creek Road in Bear Creek Cañon Park Park users may encounter lane closures as contractors repair various sections of the flood-damaged roadway. High Drive Repair work will take place along the entire 3.5 mile stretch of High Drive. The work will include erosion repair, culvert replacement, and overall drainage improvements. Access to the Palmer Trail, Bear Creek Trail (USFS Trail #666) and the Captain Jack's Trail will remain open to the public. Recreational users on High Drive may encounter construction equipment throughout the project. Dog owners are strongly encouraged to keep their pets are on leash at all times.

The coach is also a police officer in Denver and he was critically injured on the job during a protest.
