A Southern Colorado company is thinking outside the box with a new idea that's helping it get more customers and in this case animals. The Land of Ahs pet boarding facility in Fountain now has a pet limo.
But this isn't an ordinary limo.
Merle Maser had a crazy idea. "Everybody thought I was crazy getting a hearse to haul dogs in," says Maser. He recently bought a hearse for his business but he doesn't own a funeral home. "We put the decals on it, redesigned the curtains, the wife made it out of the Wizard of Oz material, so it kind of goes with the theme," says Maser.
But now it's known around town as the pet limo. "We always have done a little pick up and delivery we got several customers that have never been to the kennel, so we thought we would just promote it a little more and see if we can get more and it's snowballed since we did this, we got a lot more of them," says Maser.
He says this not so normal idea is helping his business get through the tough economy. "It's unique, it's different, there's nobody in town that's doing this. You just have to pick up an idea that no one is doing," says Maser.
It seems like the animals are a fan of it. "Everyone that's seen it thinks it's a great idea, real neat. We've had a lot of people who've been bringing their dogs here say next time your gonna pick them up," says Maser.
The cost for a trip in the pet limo is $1.00 a mile and so far Maser is seeing a little more business because of the pet limo.
