Democrats Scratch Heads, Republicans Celebrate
The Chairmen of both the Democratic Party and the Republican Party are speaking out about yesterday's GOP Gubernatorial wins in Virginia and New Jersey.

Democratic Party Chairman Tim Kaine says the party will be doing some head-scratching after exit polls in Virginia showed many independents who voted for Barack Obama last year voted for Republicans in yesterday's election.

Republicans won the governors' races there and in New Jersey.

Those results are prompting Republican Party Chairman Michael Steele to declare that the GOP has "found its voice again." Steele told CBS' "The Early Show" today he thinks Chris Christie's victory in New Jersey and Bob McDonnell's win in Virginia show that the GOP is "a transcendent party" on the move again.

Kaine tells CNN that he believes voter anxiety about jobs and the economy played heavily in the Virginia and New Jersey balloting and they shouldn't be seen as a referendum on President Obama. He said Obama "really retains a strong popularity among the voters."

President Obama is no where near as popular now as he was at the time of the 2008 elections.

I think the GOP needs to relax and not get too excited about this. President Obama is very popular and this is too vague to say it's any type of voter revolt. The true indicator will be in November 2010. If the House and Senate lose large numbers of seats only then will the GOP be able to say that they are representative of the majority of americans.
