According to the latest New York Times-CBS News poll, majorities of both whites and blacks agree the country is ready for a black president.

But the consensus seems to end there.

The perceptions of Senator Barack Obama and Senator John McCain break along racial lines. The survey found that more than 80 percent of blacks said they had a favorable opinion of Obama, but among whites, only about 30 percent said they viewed him favorably

On the issue of race relations, the survey found whites had a more positive view than blacks. More than half of whites, 55 percent, said relations are good, a finding virtually unchanged from a survey conducted in 2000. But only 29 percent of blacks said the same thing, also about the same as eight years ago.

Nearly half of black respondents said they think race relations will improve if Obama is elected. Fewer than one-third of whites felt that way.

While on the issue, McCain has a child over in Iraq lets not forget. He has served his country, which Obama's representative tried to actually use against McCain in a public interview and Obama later tried to shove off as he had nothing to with his own rep's comment. I don't think its a race issue where Obama is concerned, I think it's a stupidty issue and a him trying to snow the American population. Go Bill and Anon, I got your backs.

Bill, well said! Kudos to you! The only thing left out was awhile back when O'Bama's wife said for the first time she was proud to be an American. How terrifying is that?

Right on BJ. Plus, Obama is anti-gun, pro-socialist Europe (he just thinks they're doing a terrific job!), anti-business, will increase taxes FOR EVERYONE, doesn't have a clue re: pulling out of Iraq and leaving a gaping hole in the mid-East for terrorists, attended a church, was married, and had both kids baptized by a radical, leftist, very mean anti-American black so-called minister, has relationships with convicted home-grown anti-American terrorists, and is an out-of-touch far left elitist, as is his wife. People have no clue what's in store if this sheep in wolf's clothing gets elected. No clue. Oh, I understand he's now wearing his flag pin showing how "patriotic" he is after refusing to do so prior!! What a jerk. By the way, "leftist elitists" do NOT get goose bumps when they hear "USA, USA, USA", "God Bless America", the "Star Spangled Banner", good old American patriotism DEEP in their hearts and guts. People need to think about what O'Bama's views are relating to the military. He recently made a statement saying he would rid us of nuclear weapons if he could. So would the terrorist. I'm beginning to understand why people make reference to O'Bama and his muslum religion, why he has made reference to being raised by his mother and grandparents and totally ignored the time when he was with muslum father and the negative conotations made about his father. In politics all things must be aired not just what you think sounds better. Keep in mind that terrorism goals are to destroy the western world.

I wonder if O'Bama would be in the Presidential race if he were not a man of color. He doesn't seem to have the creditials to qualify him for the position of presidency. Hell, he dogs about the military and hasn't even served there either. He needs to thank Oprah for the endorsement. What were her qualifications to do that?

Personally, as long as people look at the numbers and divide by the Colors, there will always be a Race issue that does not need to be there. The differences may just be more based on Personality than Color. I'm SWM and I find Obama favorable and I believe the walls of Race separation will erode a bit faster if Obama is elected and that can only be a good thing. We need to stop focusing on Color and focus on what really matters, People and personality. I'd be more worried about someone on trial for murder supporting me then what Color their skin is.
