Barack Obama visits Colorado Springs Wednesday for several scheduled events.

He started with a speech Wednesday morning at UCCS.

Following that speaking event, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee will head to USNORTHCOM / NORAD for a tour and briefing with top command. Wednesday night, Obama will hold a fund-raiser at the Broadmoor. The tickets are priced at $1,000 per head, which means the Obama campaign could raise upwards of $250,000.

Colorado has been shaping up to a be a key swing state in this year's general election. Democrats, Republicans, and Independents each make up roughly a third of the electorate. However, voters have been giving more jobs, such as the role of governor, to Democrats in the past few years.

Governor Bill Ritter, appearing on NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday, said that Senator Obama has a "great opportunity" to win in Colorado in November. Ritter partially attributes Obama's chances in the Centennial state to his standing among Hispanic voters, but the junior Senator from Illinois will likely need more than that to walk with Colorado's electoral votes.

Gov. Ritter has also said that Coloradans are sick of the current situation in Washington, and that in itself, could be enough to swing voters into Obama's corner.

Regardless of how they go about it, both presidential candidates will have to fight for the support of Independent voters if they want to win in Colorado, as well as in every swing state across the country.

Well, I'm pretty sure one of the CHANGES Obama will make is to make the USA a Muslim country with soaring gas prices while he calls the family who raised him when his own parents didn't want him a bunch of "White Folk". I think you better read some of the quotes coming out of his books and his past records before you vote, Karl. I hope the rest of Illinois knows you are speaking for them LOL.

I got a kick out of Cinnamon's remark pointing fingers at the Democratic congress not allowing drilling in Alaska.. Alaska is heavily republican as is Colorado. The people of the state of Alaska do not want drilling in their state. Why should they? They have a beautiful state and collect oil dividends every October, every man, woman and child that is a citizen of the state. The democratic congress definitely isn't controlling Alaska. Good thing you are no longer in politics. You don't have a clue. I wish people would think independently and stop listening to Rush Limbaugh and other radio commentators that are dividing our country. The name calling is sickening..Barack Obama is young and intelligent. I do believe he is an independent thinker and will have his hands full cleaning up after President Bush..We need to support him. Divided, this country will fall.

Shawna, the US doesn't allow the other countries to drill off the coastline - They are in international waters and the US has no say. Problem is China and India are admitting they are conducting side ways/slant drilling into US area's. The same reason US was asked to help Kuwait and SA in 91 against Iraq

People should really research the facts before making any comment on ANWR. It is in the remote part of Alaska and the wildlife there loves the pipes for the heat, it helps them repopulate easily. The size of the drill site is small. No human person lives there (except the people drilling). It is desolate. The pictures the liberal left shows you are not the true representation of the site. So Dan, research before you speak on emotion. Also, we let other countries drill off of our coastal regions and won't do it ourselves. We then pay them for the oil we could've taken ourselves. Let's not forget the taxes the govt takes for profit so the oil can be drilled from our own people and the taxes at the pump. We pay the govt 15% in taxes and the oil company gets 7% from us. Yet, we criticize the USA oil companies for gouging us. All of this is backwards. We have the resources and the man power. We should use it.

Hey tammy, I got your rock... After the election in 4 months, you're the one that'll be crying in your soup. Go McCain!

Posted by: Tammy Location: CO on Jul 3, 2008 at 03:42 PM
Yeah Bill, its all a setup!! He looks like he's human but he's actually a robot underneath those clothes...and the millions of voters that picked him to be the democratic nominee, that was all a setup as well...go back under your rock and stay there!!

Alaska is the named the Last Frontier for a reason. No need to muck it up like the rest of the Lower 48.

Posted by: Bill Location: colorado springs, CO on Jul 3, 2008 at 12:46 AM
Hey barak-o, get a clue- We need to start drilling in ANWR NOW!!!

Posted by: Bill Location: colorado springs, CO on Jul 3, 2008 at 12:43 AM
What survey shows that he's favored here in Colorado? That's a bunch of hot air. This guy is just a clueless, left-leaning wanna-be. Nothing more. After watching the story on his visit here & seeing all the non-smiling faces in the background, I have to wonder if it was all a set-up?!? If someone wants to vote for this clown, have at it. His lack of experience & constant flip-flopping on important issues just don't work for me.

Frank - thanks I wasn't aware of that. and Karl, it's clear the anti-christ poster has listened to talk radio. There is a former AF pilot making the rounds on AM stations who profoundly believes Obama is the anti-christ and feels the bible supports it. Another nutcase IMO

The poeple who received invites were those who serve in our military, peace corps and other servie oriented organizations. It would be interesting if people on here would discuss the facts and the CHANGE that Obama wants to make for this country. It wasn't focused on gas prices and a recession, that is thanks to our republican leader. We're talking about other issues - the need for our citizens to step up and serve as well as education reform and civic responsibility. Who actually went? I was there!

Posted by: Cinnamon Location: Colo Spgs on Jul 2, 2008 at 05:50 PM
Hey Marie, the Dem's do run the country in congress...that's why your gas prices are sky rocketing and no one can drill in a remote part of Alaska to get oil to help relieve the situation. That's why we're heading into a recession. You obviously don't know what your senators and representatives are passing into law. Do you even keep up with politics or just emotional spew because of one man verses the majority of the house and senate....catch a clue and read up on your politics before you speak. I used to be in politics and can speak. I keep up with it on a daily basis of the laws these idiots try to pass. I find it is my duty as an informed citizen to actually get the facts and not sound bites from the media.

We felt your reporter was biased and tended to show her non-Barack feelings . Please put a reporter on the political jobs who is objective and supportive. There are alot of Democrats and people who want something different right here in El Paso County and let's give Barack Obama a chance. We have been viewers of your station for 30 years now and have in the past appreciated coverage of both candidates in a non-biased way. This reporter was not one of them.

Marie, Congress has been under DEMONcRATic control for the last 2 years. The economy has gotten progressively worse in those 2 years.

Sen. Obama is certainly no antichrist! Why on earth would you say something so hateful and outrageous? Illinoians have found him to be a smart and committed Senator and leader who actually cares about people. He's a Christian who is calm under stress and has a broad base of knowledge. He's dealt with name-calling all his life, and your snide and hateful remarks are unwarranted.

Yeah!! It is about time the Rep's wake up and stop living in Disneyland aka Colorado Springs. Time for the Dem's to lead our country!

Actually, the event was sponsored and paid for by local supporters. Because the event was at UCCS the chancellor and the deans got invites, but no faculty or staff. The rest of the crowd was by invitation only, although they let some people who were hanging out outside go in. Although security was very tight there were even TWO guys holding McCain signs outside. I was VERY surprised to see only two.

Posted by: t Location: COS on Jul 2, 2008 at 12:06 PM
Hey KKTV, no note about the Republicans and others demonstration on Austin Bluffs outside of UCCS? What's up w/that?

Posted by: Haleia Location: CS on Jul 2, 2008 at 11:42 AM
No doubt baby Bush did, but it wouldn't be to the degree of a presidential candidate doing so by not inviting the president of the college Student Government of the school he is speaking at.

Posted by: Ted K. Location: DC on Jul 2, 2008 at 11:08 AM
Yeah it's not like Dubya ever controlled his crowds, huh?

Posted by: Haleia Location: CS on Jul 2, 2008 at 08:33 AM
who gets the invites? Will any of the UCCS student government receive invitations? If so, it will be interesting as UCCS is very much right-wing Rep school with a Student President as hard core conservative as they get. If not, is Obama now censoring who is able to attend as if the UCCS student government president not being invited would be interesting to explain
