DENVER (AP) -- Resort towns across Colorado's high county have reported record sales-tax revenues and visitor spending this past summer.

The Denver Post reports visitors are not only returning to mountain towns after a few years of economic stagnation, they are spending more.

Telluride, Aspen, Vail and Breckenridge tallied record retail sales-tax revenue over the summer. Meanwhile, Winter Park and Steamboat Springs reached five-year high points, returning close to figures before the recession stifled spending.

While summer is growing in mountain towns, it isn't near surpassing winter. Winter revenues remain the mightiest engines in ski-resort economies. But for the second year in a row, the pace of summer growth has eclipsed winter's.
