There are delays of up to six months for those who claimed education credits on Form 8863. American Opportunity and Lifetime Learning Credits are requested via this form.
The IRS said in February that it needed more time to update its system.
In March, the agency said several tax software providers erroneously filed more than $600,000 returns containing Form 8863.
The IRS did not say how many filers still haven't received their refunds.
