Though the national unemployment rate showed a slight improvement for April, Colorado did not duplicate the trend.

Unemployment in Colorado increased in April for the first time in three months, rising slightly to 7.9 percent from 7.8 percent January-March.

This still remains below the national average of 8.1 percent.

The Colorado Department of Labor and Employment said that despite the increase, unemployment for April 2012 is still lower than it was a year ago, when the state's unemployment rate was 8.4 percent.

Colorado gained 1,200 nonfarm payroll jobs from March to April, and made gains in trade, transportation and utilities, education, health services and construction.
