As millions of Americans headed out for some Black Friday shopping, customers of Academy Bank were hit with some shocking news about their accounts.
Their cards were declined.
11 News received call after call Friday morning from customers all over the area with the same complaint about transactions that had been run multiple times. In one case, we received a report of an ATM fee that ran 70 times.
One customer, Angela, talked to 11 News about her experience. She says she made a purchase on Wednesday for $51.98 and it was run 19 times. She didn’t realize until she tried to buy pumpkin pies on Thanksgiving and her card was declined. Angela says it was extra frustrating, because the bank wasn’t open to address the issue.
Chrissy didn't know she was negative $1,100 until she went to buy sour cream Thursday and her card was declined. She discovered one purchase on Wednesday had been run 20 times.
Caitlin told 11 News she was terrified her card had been stolen when she saw she was down $800. She made three purchases Thursday: $16.65, $22.50 and a $1.50 ATM charge. But she had been charged 70 times.
"I called my husband, who was out of state, to see if he had our card...to make sure no one took it," she said.
"He's in the military...he had just gotten paid. Now we're down $800."
The senior executive vice president and CEO for Academy Bank tells 11 News that as of Friday night, most bank accounts have been fixed. If yours is still showing errors, you are asked to call Academy Bank or go into the bank to get it fixed.
