As Gas Prices Keep Rising, So Does Airfare

Rising gas prices aren't just costing you at the pump--airfares are also increasing in response to higher gas prices.

Airlines have already raised tickets twice this year, and as long as the numbers continue to go up at your local gas station, that trend is expected to continue.

Jet fuel makes up at 35 percent of an airline's operating cost; rising prices are hurting even the most profitable companies. Earlier this week, Southwest Airlines said it won't post a profit for January-March because of fuel prices.

It's been decades since a new refinery has been built in the U.S. with only upgrades done on older ones mainly due to government red tape. Now, we are beginning to see old refineries permanently shut down as a result. Fewer refinerys=less motor fuel=higher prices. "High Gas Prices - OUCH!"

Really, the cost of transportation goes up with gas? We didn't know this thanks for informing us. Why don't reporters write a better story like actual insight as to why gas prices went up? Otherwise it's just political debate spark.
