President Barack Obama says the weight of the economic crisis will not determine the nation's destiny.
In an excerpt of his speech to Congress Tuesday night, Obama said that while the economy has been weakened and Americans' confidence shaken, the country will rebuild, recover and will emerge stronger than before.
Obama said the answers don't lie beyond our reach. He said they can be found in laboratories and universities, fields and factories. He said the qualities that have made the country great, "we still possess in ample measure."
The president said what is needed now is for the country to pull together, boldly confront the challenge and take responsibility for the future once more.
