WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama has thanked Democrats and Republicans in Congress for compromising on an economic stimulus bill.
Obama says he is grateful to Congress for working urgently to forge a deal on legislation he says would save or create more than 3.5 million jobs. Lawmakers compromised on the $790 billion stimulus bill that Obama hoped to sign in the coming days.
Obama called the final deal "a hard-fought compromise" that the U.S. economy needed. He says that it would provide tax relief for millions and invest in infrastructure that would pump billions into local economies. He says it's a first step to get the economy back on track.
