American Greetings Corp. says it's cutting about 200 jobs as the company adjusts for weaker sales in the ailing economy.
American Greetings spokeswoman Patrice Sadd says employees were informed of the layoffs Thursday.
Cleveland-based AGC is slashing 15 jobs at its Carlton Card Retail division at its headquarters, and another 100 to 120 jobs at a plant in Kentucky. About 60 layoffs will be split between two plants in Arkansas and Tennessee.
The company announced last year that it would close 60 of its approximately 415 stores across the country. Those closings and layoffs are in addition to two stores in Colorado, where employees were notified in early January their locations would be shuttered.
The closings and layoffs are to be completed by Feb. 28.
