Colorado Springs Utilities offered a rare opportunity to see the inner workings of an electric generation unit Thursday.

Unit six of the Martin Drake Power Plant is undergoing annual maintenance and will be in hundreds of pieces to identify ways to keep the unit dependable.

CSU says reliable generation means we don't have to buy as much replacement power, saving customers millions of dollars.

They think of this as their way of going green and making sure the plant is both economically and ecologically friendly.

Brothers, Curtis and Jeff Kosley will be working side by side on this project. Their father and several uncles previously worked for Springs Utilities.
