Colorado Springs police are now using a popular social networking site to help them solve cold cases.
Police have set up a Facebook page that features cold cases from Colorado Springs. Right now there are about 90 unsolved cases dating back to 1949. The hope is that by getting this information out there, someone may remember something that could help them crack a case.
Pam Kinslow is hopeful the new page will help bring her family some closure. Her son Tommy was shot to death outside the family’s home on November 22, 2005.
"It's burned into my mind, I will never forget it," Kinslow said.
It's now been more than 4 years since the murder. Tommy worked late and had just arrived home, but before he could get inside, he was gunned down in the street on Constitution, near North Academy.
"Something woke me up and I guess it was the gunshots, at the time I didn't know," Kinslow said.
Kinslow believes Tommy may have tried to stop a car break-in and that's when he was shot. He'd turn 25 in just a few weeks, a hard time for their family, knowing his killer is still out there.
"This time of year coming up with his birthday it makes it harder," Kinslow said.
Tommy's case is one of dozens featured on the new CSPD Facebook page. "Just another way to get that information out there and so many people are using Facebook, Twitter," said Lt. David Whitlock with Colorado Springs Police Department.
It's only been online for a couple months and already the response has been positive.
"We've already had some amazing results just as far as some leads. Some worked out others have not," Whitlock said.
For the Kinslow family it's one more step, hopefully towards justice. "I know somebody out there knows something if they would just come forward," Kinslow said.
Everyday Tommy's case goes unsolved it’s one more day they are left without closure. "Your life just stops. You try and go on, we go on now, but life will never be what it was before for any of us," Kinslow said.
The police department says they update this site weekly with as much new information as they have on each case and with new cases altogether.
