REPORTS TO: News Director and Chief Meteorologist
To present a professional image and to demonstrate a strong knowledge of meteorology. To set the standard for station weather reporters and provide direction to other members of the weather staff with emphasis on accuracy, timeliness and a highly professional and polished image.
To produce a high quality and accurate weather forecast for weekday newscasts with an emphasis on state of the art computer graphics for air presentation and the use of sophisticated meteorological data to provide a concise, accurate and understandable report on weather conditions and forecasts. Must be able to effectively tell the weather story of the day, and understand that weather is an integral part of the overall newscast and online at kktv.com. Must have a passion for breaking weather and willingness to work alternate hours if need be for severe weather coverage.
To fill in on alternate newscasts as assigned and assist Chief Meteorologist in Breaking Weather/Severe Weather situations; to make public appearances as a station representative maintaining a professional image both on air and off. KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & ABILITY:
This position requires a high level of knowledge in the field of meteorology and proven ability to put that knowledge to work and produce an accurate, concise and informative TV weather report. Position further requires an extensive knowledge of state of the art weather computers and other meteorological tools. Position also requires a proven ability to communicate information in the form of a TV weather report with an emphasis on accuracy with a bit of entertainment and an effort to educate. Position requires the proven ability to get along well with others and to interact with the general public in a courteous knowledgeable and professional manner.
EDUCATION OR FORMAL TRAINING:
College degree in meteorology. Seals of the National Weather Association and American Meteorological Society are preferred, but certainly not necessary.
* 3 years as a weather anchor at a broadcast station.
MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED:
• Standard newsroom computer system;
• Weather graphic systems; experience with WSI MAX products is a plus.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
Position requires only occasional outdoor work including outdoors in bad weather conditions. Most work time is spent indoors working at a computer terminal.
