LEXINGTON, Ky. The Colorado State volleyball team will begin the 2018 season ranked No. 25 in the AVCA Coaches’ Preseason Poll.
The Rams finished the 2017 season ranked No. 24 after posting a 29-3 overall record, 17-1 in the Mountain West, while also making its 23rd consecutive NCAA Tournament and advancing to the second round.
This is the first time CSU has been ranked in the preseason since 2016 when they were ranked No. 25 as well. Colorado State is the lone Mountain West school to be ranked, while five non-conference opponents are ranked or receiving votes, including No. 12 Illinois and No. 15 Colorado.
The Rams have been ranked in the AVCA Preseason Poll 21 times since the poll started in 1982, including 15 of 22 under Head Coach Tom Hilbert and nine since 2008. The preseason ranking is the programs 300th time appearing the AVCA Poll. Only 11 teams, entering 2018 have been ranked more frequently.
Colorado State will play in an exhibition match on August 15 against MSU Denver in the Auraria Event Center at 6:30 p.m., before opening the 2018 season hosting No. 12 Illinois on August 24 at 7 p.m.
The Rams have been one of the nation's most consistently successful programs for more than two decades. CSU has reached 23 consecutive NCAA Tournaments (the seventh-longest streak in the NCAA), reaching the 20-win plateau in each of those seasons. Under Hilbert, the Rams own a 538-126 overall record, while a 301-35 home record and have ranked in the top-20 nationally in attendance every year since 2004.
