COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Head coach Ralph Lindeman was honored by the Mountain West after leading Air Force to the men’s team title at last week’s MW Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Clovis, Calif., while the conference office announced this afternoon (May 14) that 19 all-conference accolades were awarded to the Falcons.
After guiding Air Force to its third-straight indoor title – and its fifth in seven years – Lindeman was named the Mountain West Men’s Outdoor Coach of the Year. It is the seventh-time that he has been selected by his peers as the top MW Outdoor coach (2001-03-12-13-16-17) – and the 14th overall, as Lindeman has also received the league’s coaching award at seven indoor championships (2001-04-08-11-12-16-18).
The men, who accumulated 204 points to better the rest of the field by 20.50 points, captured their eighth MW title in six years (three indoor, five outdoor) on May 12. Based on finishes within the top-three of the conference championship meet in California, the men accounted for 16 all-conference honors.
Senior John Reynolds earned individual all-conference honors in multiple events for the third-straight meet, as he won the triple jump and finished third in the high jump. Classmates Calvin Berstler (decathlon), Tyler Koss (400-meter dash) and Chip White (400-meter hurdles) also earned all-conference honors after claiming Mountain West titles in their respective events, while Koss and White ran the final two legs of the winning 4x400-meter relay (junior Sedacy Walden, freshman Zachary Dicken).
In addition to leading off the 4x400-meter relay, Walden also ran on the 4x100-meter relay that placed second and garnered an individual medal as the runner-up in the 400-meter dash. Junior Micah Fontaine, who placed second in the 110-meter hurdles, and senior Robbie Anderson, who finished third in the 200-meter dash, joined Walden and junior Miguel Molas on the 4x100-meter relay squad.
Freshman Mitch Lipe and junior Sam Hinegardner finished second and third, respectively, in the pole vault to give Air Force multiple all-MW awards in that event for the seventh straight year. Sophomore Parker Spearman earned runner-up honors in the javelin throw, while senior Tyler Berson (decathlon), junior Jacob Bilvado (5000-meter run) and classmate Logan Feasline (discus throw) earned all-MW honors after placing third in their respective events.
Air Force collected three all-conference selections on the women’s side. Junior Kathryn Tomczak earned all-conference honors after capturing the program’s first-ever outdoor title in the pole vault, while senior Shelley Spires finished second in the high jump and junior Jaci Smith placed third in the 5000-meter run.
