Pack track and field programs gather 20 All-RMAC awards

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's and women's track and field programs gathered 20 all-conference awards for the outdoor season Wednesday when the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference released its 2017 Outdoor Track and Field honors list.

Student-athletes who finished in the top three of an event at the 2017 RMAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships were recognized as All-RMAC First Team, while placers fourth through sixth were named All-RMAC Second Team. The top relay team was recognized as first team with the second place finisher as second team.

Junior Derrick Williams (Columbia Falls, Mont.) won the 3000m steeplechase for the second straight year, while senior Sydni Riley (Florissant, Colo.) was crowned RMAC Champion in the 800m run to lead a group of eight athletes as All-RMAC First Team.

Both the men and women totaled four first team honors. In the 400m dash, junior Dueth Vassell (Denver, Colo.) and freshman Taliah Burney (Colorado Springs, Colo.) both placed second. In the women's long jump the Pack had the second and third place finishers in Lauren Fairchild (McKinney, Texas) and Tatianna Clanton (Colorado Springs, Colo.), respectfully. Also finding the podium with third place finishes for the men were senior Dante Carter (Las Vegas, Nev.) in t he 1500m and Ron Sweeten (Falcon, Colo.) in the triple jump.

Clanton helped the Pack accumulate 13 points at the conference championships with fifth-place finishes in both the 100m and 200m races to also gather All-RMAC Second Team honors.
Sweeten also totaled three all-conference awards and was the team's top point getter at RMAC Championships. He helped total 23 points, as he was fifth in the long jump and ran the opening leg of the men's 4x400m relay that finished second.

Also earning All-RMAC Second Team in the relay were Thomas Staines (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.), Shawn Horne (So., Camp Casey, South Korea) and Vassell.
Horne and Staines were second team in the 400m (fourth) and 800m (fifth), respectfully.

Freshman Paul Roberts (Boulder, Colo.) was fourth in the 5000m run to earn second team honors. Finally, Tevin Donnell (So., Fountain, Colo.) was second team in the 100m dash after finishing sixth.
Junior Miriam Roberts (Boulder, Colo.) gathered two All-RMAC Second Team honors, as she was fourth in both the 1500m and 5000m races.

Junior Catherine Tiona (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was fifth in the pole vault, while senior Andrea Tuck (Canon City, Colo.) was sixth in the 100m hurdles to both gather second team recognition.
The women finished fifth (66.5 points), while the men were sixth (70 points) at the RMAC Outdoor Championships. Both programs are sending three atheltes to the NCAA Championships.
