COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. Four members of the Colorado State University-Pueblo tennis programs were recognized as Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Preseason All-Conference Thursday, while the men were ranked tied for second in the RMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll with the women finishing tied for third.
The Pack men totaled six points and gathered one first place vote in the preseason poll to tie with Colorado Mesa University. Metro State University of Denver was first with all nine available points in the four-team league. Ogulcan Deniz (Jr., Istanbul, Turkey) and Thomas Pudney (Fr., Southend, United Kingdom) were named to the six-player Preseason All-RMAC Team.
The ThunderWolves went 6-3 during the fall portion of their schedule. Pudney finished the fall dual season with a 5-1 record at No. 1 singles and a 4-4 mark in doubles play at No. 1 and No. 2. He finished runner-up in the ITA South Central Regional and ranks No. 2 regionally and No. 35 nationally in the first ITA national rankings. Deniz did not compete in the fall semester.
The Pack women totaled five points and a first place vote to tie with Colorado Mesa for third in the four-team league. MSU Denver was first with eight points, while Colorado Christian University was second with six points. Freshman Kali Hamilton (Grapevine, Texas) and junior Nia Matthews (Houston, Texas) were recognized as Preseason All-RMAC.
The ThunderWolves were 0-7 in dual competition during the fall season. Hamilton finished the fall dual season with a 2-5 record at singles, playing at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. She was 3-4 in doubles play. Matthews was the team's No. 1 all fall in both singles (1-6) and doubles (1-6).
Both teams begin the spring season Jan. 20 at University of Northern Colorado. The women will play at 10 a.m., while first serve for the men is set for 2 p.m.
