Troopers, police dog save driver from car fire

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - State Patrol -- with a little help from a canine crimefighter -- pulled a man from his car before the vehicle burst into flames.

The driver had just led troopers on a short chase, which started around 3 a.m. Monday when he refused to pull over for a traffic stop. State Patrol told 11 News his car started smoking during the chase, and he ended up having to pull over after all.

The driver refused to get out of his car despite the smoke and troopers along with a police dog ultimately had to force him out. Just in the nick of time -- the car fully caught fire just after that.

The man is now in custody. It's unknown what charges he'll face.

The incident happened on northbound I-25 south of Circle.
