A KKTV CHRISTMAS
We all love Christmas music. The old fashioned standards are my favorites, and some modern pop artists have made wonderful Christmas music too.
I first had the idea for us to do a Christmas special at KKTV five or six years ago. The concept was to invite local performers into the 11 News studio and record them doing Christmas songs. We’ve done the specials every year since.
We have a lot of newscasts every day, and it just made sense on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day to replace some of that news time with beautiful Christmas music.
Last year we actually produced three different half-hour specials. This time, since Christmas is on a Sunday, we don’t have as many newscasts, therefore we don’t have as many options to replace some of our news time with music. News is always the priority and even on Christmas we have to do some! This year we have one Christmas special and the entire 30 minutes features the wonderfully talented kids from the Colorado Springs Children’s Chorale.
Over the course of two afternoons more than 120 of the Chorale’s kids filed into our studio to sing their songs. They were magnificent. The kids in the Dawn Singers are as young as seven!
They get older through the Springs Singers and the Pikes Peak Singers – until they make it to the Summit Ensemble. Those are the high school students.
A "KKTV Christmas" airs Friday at 4 p.m. and Christmas night at 10:30. Set the DVR and get ready for some wonderful Christmas music!
The Chorale is celebrating its 40th anniversary and we are thrilled to have them celebrate Christmas with us on “A KKTV Christmas.”
