String of car break-ins near Platte and South Academy

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Police have arrested one person accused of burglarizing vehicles overnight, but say there are several others still at large.

Officers were called to an apartment complex in the 100 block of Coleridge Avenue around 2:45 Sunday morning on reports of a large disturbance involving up to 20 people breaking into cars and acting "belligerent." A security guard on scene was able to give officers the description of one suspect.

While talking with the security guard, police say a man matching the suspect description reappeared at the complex. The suspect tried to run from officers but was captured after a short chase. After he was apprehended, he reportedly claimed responsibility for several of the break-ins and had evidence on him that linked him to at last one burglarized car.

Police tell 11 News they believe there were a number of other suspects but that they do not have descriptions at the time of this writing.
