COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - A stolen car from Wyoming ended up off a cliff in Colorado Springs, on its wheels, radio playing -- no occupants in sight.
The hiker noticed the car while hiking near the second tunnel off Gold Camp Road just before 10 Tuesday morning. The engine was still running but whoever had been it was long gone.
Police speculate the driver used a rock or something heavy to propel the vehicle off the cliff. Where the original car theft took place is still under investigation; the car has Wyoming plates but could have been stolen from a Wyoming resident staying in the Springs.
As of 12:30 p.m., Gold Camp Road is closed between the second tunnel and High Drive while a tow truck works to pull up the vehicle. The parking lot at High Drive is still accessible, but recreational users must drive through Cheyenne Canon to reach it.
