Springs Police Department welcomes 54 new officers

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - More than 50 new police officers will be hitting the streets of Colorado Springs. Friday marked the largest graduation class in CSPD history.

Most of the 54 new officers 11 News spoke with were excited and proud to take on the responsibility of law enforcement.

These new recruits push the number of officers closer to capacity..

The new total is 700 officers.

New officers say this day didn't come without sacrifice.

“One of the more difficult things was be long hours, the long days. You can see I have my little one here," said new police Officer Paul Hubbard, holding his little girl. "She’s 2 now. Throughout this whole process I would leave early in the morning before she would get up and get home sometimes she would be sleeping already.”

Springs police said this will help lower the response time for 911 calls in the city.
