Scam email poses as KKTV 11 News

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) A fraudulent email is making the rounds across Colorado Springs and it's posing as KKTV 11 News.

11 News first learned of it Thursday, when it was sent to us.

In the email, it congratulates them for winning a "Gold Star" award from 11 News. Unlike a lot of scam emails with misspellings and bad grammar, this one is pretty convincing.

It came from a "Troy Duncan" who claims to be a KKTV employee, except he's not.

It tells local businesses they're gold star recipients and will be given a bunch of great prizes, including: Visa gift cards, dinner at The Broadmoor, coverage during a newscast, as well as $2,500 worth of free advertising.

But, don't fall for it, it's a scam.

"We are concerned that local small businesses may be conned by this email because it sounds very convincing. We’re working to find out if there’s any way to track down who’s behind it," said KKTV 11 News General Manager Nick Matesi.
