COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Beware of calls claiming to be with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.
EPSO says a new scam is making the rounds, with crooks calling unsuspecting citizens under the guise of being with the Sheriff's Office.
The caller tells the victim that there's a warrant for his or her arrest, and a payment is needed to clear it up. The calls seem convincing because number on the caller ID really is an EPSO number. The Sheriff's Office says crooks are able to use a device to spoof any legitimate phone number.
The Sheriff's Office says it will never call citizens to inform them there is a warrant out for them, and it will never call and ask for money for any reason. If you receive a call from phone number 719-520-7100 or any other number claiming to be with EPSO and asking for a payment, this is a scam. Hang up and report it to local law enforcement.
