Robbery turns deadly in the latest of a string of robberies across the city

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - We've been telling you for weeks about armed robberies. The crooks are hitting local gas stations and liquor stores.

Colorado Springs police tell us it's too early to say if the robberies are connected and they have not released surveillance video in all the cases.

On Wednesday on 11 News at 10 p.m., we told you about dangerous robberies and we asked police if they were connected, since the suspect descriptions were similar. Just a few hours after our report, someone was killed.

What started as a robbery turned into a murder - a clerk in his late 60's was shot and killed at a liquor store on North Carefree and North Academy in northeastern Colorado Springs.

"I'm feeling sad, heartbroken, said neighbor Deborah O'Neill. "I feel sad for the family."

Earlier this week, we told you two robbers pointed a gun at a pregnant woman who worked at the Subway on B street.

"The first thing I said was, 'Please don't hurt me, I'm eight months pregnant,'" said Baily Napier.

While police are not releasing any of the surveillance video from any of the robberies, we do have video from the 7-Eleven on Carefree and Murray. There were two other robberies that same night.

11 News listened to the dispatch recordings from some of the other recent robberies to see if there are any similarities.

This is how the call came in for the liquor store robbery:

Dispatch: "Be advised, visual {inaudible} opened by a rock, like the previous robberies."
Officer: "Three males involved. No description at this point. One party shot."

There is a growing memorial set-up at the front door of the liquor store. The store was closed on Thursday, but customers stopped by to drop off flowers and cards.

If you have any information about any of the roberries, call police at 719-444-7000 or remain anonymous through Crime Stoppers at 719-634-STOP.
