Pueblo VA Clinic named PFC James Dunn VA Clinic

PUEBLO, Colo. (KKTV) - The Pueblo VA Clinic has been named the PFC James Dunn VA Clinic, after the Pueblo Navy Cross recipient. In 2016, a nominating committee unanimously recommended naming the VA Clinic after PFC Dunn.

PFC Dunn served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Second World War, and was awarded the Navy Cross for his “extraordinary heroism and devotion to duty” in taking command of his combat patrol after a Japanese ambush incapacitated the patrol’s chain of command on January 20th, 1943 on Guadalcanal. His citation notes that PFC Dunn showed “complete disregard for personal safety, promptly assumed command and led the men to jungle cover in the face of fierce mortar and machine-gun fire.”
