COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - A canine crimefighter is uninjured after a violent run-in with a burglary suspect.

Springs police say the suspect hit K-9 Max several times after Max caught up to him during a chase Tuesday night.

The chase started after a burglary at a hotel on the 2400 block of East Pikes Peak Avenue just before 11:30. Responding officers were investigating a sliding door that had been forced open with the suspect suddenly jumped from a second-story window and sprinted across the street. Max and his handler, Officer Donovan, ran after.

Police say that Max bit the suspect as the suspect hit him, then officers took him into custody.

The suspect has been identified as 25-year-old Edgardo Nunez-Palencia. He faces charges of second-degree burglary and cruelty to a certified police dog.
