Police: Colorado Springs man tries to shoot raccoon, accidentally shoots self

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - A man was taken to the hospital after he reportedly tried to shoot a raccoon, but shot himself in the leg instead.

Colorado Springs police were first called for a reported shooting in 2500 block of Weston Road. That's near Hancock Expressway and S. Circle Drive just after midnight Wednesday.

When officers got there, they found a man with a gunshot wound in his lower leg. He told police he was trying to shoot a raccoon that was on a telephone pole with his revolver handgun but shot himself instead.

The man was identified as Don Upshaw. He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police issued Upshaw a citation for prohibited use of a weapon.
