2 seriously hurt in Elbert County plane crash

ELBERT COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) - Two people were seriously injured Wednesday when a gust of wind caused a single-engine plane to crash.

The Elbert County Sheriff's Office is reporting the plane tried landing at the Ben Kelly airstrip in the southwest part of the county when the aircraft was hit by a gust of wind, bounced off the runway, and went across County Road 5.

Both occupants were thrown from the plane. They were conscious when first responders arrived on scene but had serious injuries.

The FAA was notified of the crash.
