PUEBLO, Colo. (KKTV) - A pedestrian was killed Saturday morning crossing I-25.
State troopers responded to the Young Hollow Road exit (mile marker 114) around 6:15 a.m. after a truck driver called and reported hitting someone.
A spokesperson for Colorado State Patrol tells 11 News the semi was traveling southbound when the pedestrian suddenly darted across the roadway. The driver couldn't get out of the way in time. The pedestrian was reportedly crossing from the west side of the road to the east.
The pedestrian died at the scene. The driver was not hurt.
The driver was reportedly hauling mail in a private semi-truck contracted by the U.S. Postal Service. State Patrol says alcohol and speeding are not suspected on the part of the driver, identified as 39-year-old Scott Westwood of Westminster.
it's still early in the investigation, but troopers say there is evidence the deceased may be homeless.
The crash happened on southbound I-25 at Young Hollow Road (exit 114), which is between Fountain and Pueblo. Drivers are being diverted around the exit.
