Storage unit fire. June 17, 2017.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - One man was injured in a fire at a storage unit Saturday afternoon.

Firefighters told 11 News they responded around 2 p.m. to the Public Storage on Edison Avenue near Platte Avenue and Powers Boulevard in Colorado Springs.

One man was taken to the hospital with burns on his hands.

"We did have one individual. I believe it was the renter that did get some burns to his hands. He has been transported to a local hospital for those burns," said CSFD Medical Lt. Kevin Ducy.

He is expected to be OK.

Crews told us the fire was contained to one unit, but the neighboring units had smoke and heat damage.

“It was an active fire inside there and I believe they called it 'smoke showing,' so there was smoke outside of the structure, and the flames apparently were still inside. They knocked it down very quickly because it was in such a small space," said Lt. Ducy.

The investigation continues into what caused the fire.
