LA JUNTA, Colo. (KKTV) - With multiple wildfires burning across Colorado sparked during dry conditions, crews with the La Junta Fire Department had their hands full responding to three reported fires in a matter of minutes on Wednesday.
The fires were sparked just south of the city. One of the fires was off of Highway 10 and firefighters were able to put it out quickly. A second fire was extinguished by the rain. The third was found off Otero County Road 804 in Picket Wire Canyon and was about 10 acres as of 5:25 p.m. It had grown to 35 acres Thursday morning.
As of 8 a.m., the fire in Picket Wire Canyon, called the Withers Canyon Fire, was about 90 percent contained.
