Fort Carson soldiers sent to Texas for Hurricane Harvey support

FORT CARSON, Colo. (KKTV) - More than a dozen soldiers are being sent from Fort Carson to Joint Base San Antonio to help provide support for Hurricane Harvey.

The 4th Sustainment Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, has sent about 15 soldiers to Texas. The division will be assisting Army North with setting up a mission command center to process active duty Army assets to provide assistance to FEMA and those affected by Hurricane Harvey.

The Fort Carson Directorate of Emergency Services provided a firefighter and paramedic to the Colorado Task Force 1 Urban Search and Rescue Team that deployed over the past weekend.

Hurricane Harvey has weakened to a minimal tropical storm, with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph (64 kph), down from 45 mph (72 kph). Warnings and watches have been dropped for nearly all of Texas, except Sabine Pass as of Wednesday afternoon.
