MONTROSE, Colo. (KKTV) - The Federal Bureau of Investigation Denver Division created a questionnaire for potential victims of a now shut down funeral home in Montrose that is under investigation.
According to CBS Denver, the Sunset Mesa Funeral Directors was shut down earlier this month in an FBI raid following several complaints, including that families were given dry cement instead of their loved one's ashes.
The FBI said they are reaching out to those who they believe may have pertinent information in the investigation. On Monday, the questionnaire was released. Click here for a link to the questionnaire.
During the investigation, the FBI plans to test a select set of cremains. They say their lab, or any other, likely cannot test for DNA to see if the ashes are from a certain person. Rather, the testing will only determine whether or not the ashes are from a human instead of a foreign substance.
While the number of potential victims has not been released at this time, the FBI said they cannot commit to testing all ashes from the funeral home. The FBI is also working with Colorado Mesa University for the investigation for more testing options for ashes from potential victims.
Investigators say this case could take some time and thank the public for their patience. The public may call 1-833-432-4873 and select option 6 for up-to-date information.
