COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - A busy intersection had lanes closed for about two hours Saturday morning because of a crash that left one man with life-threatening injuries.
Colorado State Patrol says a construction truck was beginning its turn on a green arrow from South Academy Boulevard to Highway 85/87 when a Dodge Ram pickup flew through the red light. The two vehicles collided, and the force of impact sent the driver in the pickup flying into his windshield, head first. He was left with serious, life-threatening injuries and was taken to Memorial Hospital. Troopers say he was not wearing a seat belt.
The driver of the construction truck, as well as the passenger in that truck, had minor injuries. They were taken to the hospital as a precaution.
Troopers believe drugs and alcohol may also be factors in the crash by the driver of the pickup truck. He could face several charges.
During the crash, both northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 85/87 were shut down. The crash was cleared by 9:30 a.m.
