Convenience stores targeted in string of overnight robberies

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Robbers struck at or near three 7-Elevens in as many hours early Tuesday morning.

It's unclear if the robberies are connected. They all happened several miles apart.

Police were first called to the 800 block of North Nevada at 1:30 a.m. after a man reported being attacked on his way to a nearby convenience store. The suspects beat him with an unknown object, then stole some of his personal property. Police have not said what they got away with.

The two suspects were only described as wearing all black clothing.

The Police Department has not said if the convenience store was a 7-Eleven, but there is one located just up the road from where the victim was assaulted, at 825 N. Nevada.

One hour later, our partners at The Gazette say three armed men robbed a 7-Eleven 5.5 miles away on the 4300 block of South Carefree. The robbers were all carrying handguns and stole cash and other items. No injuries were reported. The suspects ran away afterwards, and no getaway car was seen.

Just after 4 a.m., two men tried robbing a convenience store on the 2400 block of North Union, which The Gazette reports was also a 7-Eleven. The suspects left empty-handed after failing to steal anything. No other details have been released by police.

Anyone with information about one or more of these robberies is asked to call the Colorado Springs Police Department at 444-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP. Crime Stoppers calls can be made anonymously.
