COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Two arrests have been made in a homicide investigation.
The victim was 50-year-old Eugene Henrey Wildeman.
Wildeman's body was discovered at South Shooks Run Park on December 3 near a playground close to the water.
"About 10:22 a.m., we had citizens walking along the creekbed and discovered what they believed to be a deceased male," said CSPD Sgt. James Sokolik.
Less than two weeks later, police announced the arrests of 25-year-old Kenneth Alexander Palmer and 41-year-old Earnest Marcel Mims. Both face charges of first-degree murder.
The suspects were found in a large tent camp along Fountain Creek near Dorchester Park.
Sokolik initially told 11 News there was nothing that "specifically" pointed to the death as being suspicious, and that "all deaths" are treated as suspicious until the cause of death is determined. Later that week, the police department confirmed that an autopsy showed Wildeman had been victim of foul play.
Wildeman's death marked the 30th homicide in Colorado Springs for 2017, up nine from the time of the death last year.
The park is located near the intersection of Fountain Boulevard and Corona Street.
