High school sweethearts Bill and Barbara Everett married in 1961 and never stopped moving for their nearly 50 years of wedded life, hiking, biking and sailing all over the country. When they weren't enjoying the outdoors, Bill served in the military and then later worked in the airline industry as a director of telecommunications, and Barbara taught elementary school.
After retiring, the couple was drawn to Colorado for its beauty and the active lifestyle that so matched their own. They set down roots in the Mountain Shadows neighborhood and for their rest of their lives enjoyed waking up in the mountains and watching wildlife wander across their yard.
The Everetts lost their lives on June 26, 2012 when the Waldo Canyon Fire came over the mountain into their beloved neighborhood. Their neighbors have honored their memory with memorial trail at Mountain Shadows Park dedicated to the couple and their love of hiking.
