Woman killed while crossing interstate in Fountain ID'd

FOUNTAIN, Colo. (KKTV) - Troopers say a woman was trying to cross the interstate when she was fatally hit by a car late Sunday night.

The woman died at the scene. She has been identified as 54-year-old Stephanie Felts, of Colorado City.

State Patrol says 29-year-old Heather deGroot was traveling southbound on I-25 at the same time the victim was crossing the road by the Mesa Ridge Parkway exit (exit 132). After colliding, the Jeep went into the median. No one inside the Jeep was hurt.

I-25 was closed for several hours and reopened before 5 a.m. Monday.

The crash remains under investigation.
