Alert neighbor calls 911 for Colorado Springs apartment fire

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - A Colorado Springs resident called firefighters the moment they heard a smoke alarm Tuesday evening, possibly preventing a larger fire from breaking out at an apartment complex.

Firefighters were called out to the Avalon Valley Apartments near North Academy and Palmer Park Boulevard just after 5:30 p.m. for the blaze. Officials tell 11 News the fire started in an apartment that was under renovation. About 35 units were impacted by the smoke. There were no reported injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
