5-year-old survives mountain lion attack near Aspen

ASPEN, Colo. (KKTV) A 5-year-old boy survived an attack by a mountain lion near Aspen on Friday evening.

The attack happened about 8 p.m. in the lower Woody Creek area. The boy’s mother fought off the big cat.

The boy’s mother brought him to Aspen Valley Hospital. He will be transferred to Children’s Hospital in Aurora. As of 9 p.m. Friday, the child was listed in fair condition.

The boy’s mother was also injured but she was treated and released in good condition.

What led up to the attack is unknown. It is unclear whether wildlife officials are tracking the mountain lion.
