ALAMOSA, Colo. (KKTV) - A passenger was killed Friday night after State Patrol says the van she was riding in made a u-turn in front of an oncoming car.
The van was traveling west on Highway 160 just before 8:30 and was 4 miles outside Alamosa when State Patrol says the driver did a u-turn and started heading east. A Hyundai Sonata was coming up behind the van and ended up rear-ending it.
The van skidded off the road after impact while the Sonata spun around and came to a stop in the roadway.
The driver of the van, 46-year-old Steven Doyle, and one of the passengers both sustained moderate injuries, while the 20-year-old driver in the Sonata only had minor injuries.
The back seat passenger in the van, identified as 31-year-old Cherryl Ruiz, was killed. State Patrol has not said if she was wearing a seat belt.
The crash remains under investigation, but drugs and alcohol are not suspected.
